Research Interests
As manager of MRSH: Application of computer
database management techniques to aid the research community in
obtaining information relating to the preparation and
characterization of materials.
As a metallurgist: Investigation of phase equilibria with particular interest in solid-liquid transformations. Application of these principles to the preparation of high quality single crystals of pure metals and alloys. The study of the convective influence on the solidification of peritetic alloys. Metallurgical processing and refinement of low-level contaminated metals for recycle.
Recent Activities
The Materials Referral
System and Hotline (MRSH) was established in May, 1983 as part of
the Materials Preparation Center (MPC) of
the Ames Laboratory of the Division of Materials Sciences, Office of
Basic Energy Sciences, DOE. A computerized database of capabilities
relating to the preparation and characterization of materials has
been created by MRSH. This database includes capabilities at
commercial sources, DOE National Laboratories and other specialty
sources. Also, a network of researchers has been established to aid
in answering inquiries. MRSH services are intended primarily to
support DOE programs, but they are also available to the general
research community. These services are provided at no charge.
